Rodrigue Mouchez Armendariz is a Franco-Mexican artist and curator. He studied at the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts de Lyon (DNSEP, 2012) and in the Ex.e.r.ce program at the Centre Chorégraphique National de Montpellier in 2011. In 2017, he founded the curatorial platform AGUAS, within which he initiates a annual program of exhibitions, conferences and off-site projects.

In recent years, his artistic research has focused on the notion of transmission and memory, following a decolonial and transdisciplinary approach. In his recent work, he has created a series of large-scale installations in which he transforms exhibition spaces entirely into liminal spaces, thresholds between worlds and generations, underlining the transitory and fictional quality of our spaces of life and memory. His installations, which are at once sculptural, choreographic and dramaturgical, make room for what emerges from the margins of official history, for what has not disappeared but merely shifted. If his artistic practice enables him to carry out questioning stemming from personal methodologies, his curatorial practice enables him to collectively create other methodologies, conditions of enunciation and creative processes from a variety of experiences, territories and positionalities. Indeed, within AGUAS, and with the complicity of several collaborators he initiates collective lines of research that highlight the need to engage in processes of invisibilized memories, the importance of the notion of translation as a creative act of resistance, or the recognition of the border as a fertile space for fertile space for creation, enunciation and collective discussion.

Rodrigue Mouchez Armendariz has recently had solo exhibitions at Konvent Punt Zero (Berga, Catalonia, SP, 2022), FASE (l’hospitalet de llobregat, Catalonia, SP, 2022), guadalajara90210 (Mexico City, MX, 2022) and Massapé Projetos (São Paulo, BR, 2019). His work has been presented at venues including Casa Equis (Mexico City, MX), Institut français d’El Jadida (El Jadida, MA), Canopy Gallery (Brussels, BE), 68projects-Gallery Kornfled (Berlin, DE), Z33 Art Center (Hasselt, BE), Le Magasin (Grenoble, FR) and the V Biennale de Marrakech (Marrakech, MA) with the Saout Radio project. He has also curated the exhibitions Fuel to Fire (2023, AGUAS, Barcelona), La ciudad en la que crecí era de piedra pero la hicieron sobre lodo (2023, AGUAS, Barcelona), Agua del día (2018, El quinto piso, Mexico City, MX / Espace Vanderbort, Bruxelles, BE), A group of people walking through the space (2018, Untitled Art Fair, Miami Beach, US) and was guest curator of the Untitled Art Fair, Miami Beach, US in 2018.
